Tension in Ablekuma West as ballot boxes transported in taxi after polls close

Tensions have erupted in the Ablekuma West Constituency following a controversial incident in which ballot boxes were seen being transported in a taxi shortly after polls closed on Saturday, December 7, during Ghana’s general elections.

The use of a taxi to transport the ballots quickly raised alarm among voters, sparking concerns about the security and integrity of the election process.

Many residents have expressed doubts about the Electoral Commission's logistical arrangements, criticising the perceived lack of proper planning for the safe handling of ballots.

At the collation centre, security was forced to contain an increasingly agitated crowd that attempted to breach the gates in protest.

Amid the unrest, reports emerged of several ballot boxes being thrown over the barricades, while two more boxes were transported in the same manner, further fuelling public outrage.

The disruption has caused significant delays in the collation of results, overshadowing what had otherwise been a peaceful voting process in the constituency.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the transparency and credibility of the electoral process as attention turns to the final results.
