He has been renominated alongside two others — Mr Issah Zakariah for the Yendi municipality and Mr Mohammed Dramani for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District — according to a statement signed an issued by the Local Government and Rural Development Minister, Mr Julius Debrah.

Two others have been nominated by the President in accordance with Article 243 of the 1992 Constitution and Section 20 of the Local Government Act, Act 462.

They are Mr Alidu Iddrisu Zakari for West Mamprusi and Mr Jacob Ware for Bibiani-Anhwiawso-Bekwai.

Mr Barimah was removed from office in March this year after making uncomplimentary comments at a public function where he was the special guest.

His use of the Akan expression, 'Tweaa', an interjection to show contempt to a statement made by someone, did not go down well with the government.

He was consequently cautioned by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to be of good behaviour.

Days later, Mr Barimah was said to have granted an interview to a radio station in which he was reported to have said he did not regret his use of 'Tweaa'.

In August this year, President Mahama, in a statement, said the government had not yet taken a decision to recall the former DCE.

Media reports were rife in August that the President had reinstated the man, popularly known as ‘Tweaa DCE’.

Enquiries made by the Daily Graphic at the Presidency concerning the authenticity of the reports, however, proved otherwise, as a source said the President had not made a decision on him yet.

But a delegation of chiefs from the area visited the Flagstaff House to make a passionate appeal to President Mahama to reconsider his decision on the former DCE.

It appears that after almost three months their appeal has paid off.
