The two, Mr Jonathan Tackie-Komme, a former Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo, and Mr Daniel Amartey-Mensah, immediate past  Municipal Chief Executive for Ledzokuku-Krowor, are among four contestants who have declared their intentions to vie for the position during the congress.

The rest are the incumbent regional chairman, Mr Ade Coker and  Mr Henry Ekow Manly-Spain, who are yet to pick their forms.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the party’s regional office in Accra, Mr Tackie-Komme said the region needed a committed and loyal leader, as well as a unifier, who could unite the rank and file of the party so that with a united front, members could go into the 2016 elections with greater confidence.

He recounted that the region had always been the decider of elections in the country, for which reason he would strive to bring on board what he described as ‘the orphan constituencies’, so that the party could win majority of the seats in the region in 2016.

Mr Tackie-Komme, therefore, appealed to the delegates to elect him as the regional chairman.

For his part, Mr Amartey-Mensah said the party in the region needed a grass-roots person to lead members to ensure victory in 2016.

According to him, having served the NDC for the past 22 years, starting as an assemblyman, he was the right choice for the position.

Mr Amartey-Mensah, therefore, urged the delegates to give him their mandate to serve the party, to ensure victory in the 2016 elections. — GNA
