UBB: Pro-Bawumia group launched in Belgium ahead of NPP presidential primaries

A pro-Dr Mahamudu Bawumia support group, United Belgium for Bawumia (UBB), has been officially launched in Belgium, adding momentum to the former Vice President’s diaspora mobilisation ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31.

The group was inaugurated on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at a gathering of New Patriotic Party supporters and sympathisers resident in Belgium. A majority of those present openly declared their support for Dr Bawumia’s bid to lead the party, signalling growing backing for his candidature among the Ghanaian diaspora in Europe.

The event also drew participation from party officials and activists from Ghana and other European branches of the NPP, reflecting the expanding reach of the Bawumia campaign beyond Ghana’s borders. Among those present were Emmanuel Attafuah-Danso, a former Director for Diaspora Affairs and former Acting National Youth Organiser of the party, Rayan Salisu Kentebako, Secretary of the NPP Austria Branch and Secretary to the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia Diaspora Campaign Team, and Gifty Asare, a former parliamentary aspirant for the Kade Constituency who currently serves as Women’s Organiser of the NPP Spain Branch.

Opening the programme, the Chairman of the NPP Belgium Branch, Mr Solomon Agyin, popularly known as King Solomon, appealed for unity and discipline among party members. He urged supporters of all five presidential aspirants to conduct their campaigns with decorum, stressing that cohesion within the party would be essential after the primaries.

In a founders’ address, Mr Andrews Perprem, Acting Secretary of the Antwerp Chapter of the NPP and a co-founder of United Belgium for Bawumia, outlined the objectives of the newly launched group. He said the organisation aimed to campaign vigorously to secure at least 80 per cent of the vote for Dr Bawumia in the party’s presidential primary, mobilise financial and human resources ahead of the 2028 general elections, and engage actively in grassroots campaigning to ensure victory in the presidential race.

Mr Perprem indicated that the group would work closely with the NPP Belgium Branch and other existing party structures to promote unity, coordination and mutual respect within the diaspora. He explained that United Belgium for Bawumia was founded on principles of consensus, trust and shared sacrifice among its five co-founders, namely Andrews Perprem, Ralph Panford, Richmond Nyantakyi Bekoe, Kelvin Afrifa and Saida Dauda.

He appealed to the executives of the NPP Belgium Branch to regard the group as partners working towards a common objective, while encouraging party members who harboured reservations to engage constructively rather than assume ill intent. He also urged discipline, respect for party structures, collective communication and integrity among the group’s leadership and membership.

Other speakers, including Mr Ralph Panford, Mr Emmanuel Attafuah-Danso, Mr Rayan Salisu Kentebako and Nana Akosua Nyamekye, First Vice Chairperson of the NPP Belgium Branch, called on delegates based in Belgium to rally behind Dr Bawumia.

The launch of United Belgium for Bawumia formally marks the commencement of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign activities in Belgium, with seventeen recognised delegates present at the event publicly declaring their support for his candidature.
