President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Accra after participating in a High-Level Retreat on African Union (AU) Institutional Reforms, held in Kenya from January 27 to 28, 2025.

The retreat, hosted at the invitation of Kenyan President William Ruto, who has been designated as the African Union Champion, brought together African leaders to discuss critical reforms aimed at strengthening the AU’s effectiveness.

During the event, President Mahama delivered a speech alongside other heads of state, contributing to in-depth discussions on revitalising the AU, enhancing peace and security, and tackling the continent’s pressing challenges.

Three-nation tour

Following the AU retreat, President Mahama visited Tanzania, marking the final leg of a three-nation tour. His diplomatic engagements began with a brief stopover in Angola, where he held bilateral discussions with Angolan counterparts.

President Mahama's participation in these high-level meetings underscores Ghana’s commitment to regional integration, security, and the advancement of AU reforms aimed at achieving greater efficiency in tackling Africa’s challenges.
