We have nothing to do with branded vehicles — NCCE

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has denied owning a number of Mahindra vehicles branded in the colours of the ruling National Democratic Congresss (NDC).

According to Mr Samuel Akuamoah, the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations of the NCCE, the commission had never used Mahindra vehicles in its operations.

He said although the commission had  logistical and funding gaps, it was mobilising to do its work ahead of the November 7, polls.

The NCCE Deputy Chairman, however, made an appeal through the Daily Graphic that “If anybody has an information that the Mahindra vehicles belong to the commission, then they should volunteer such information to enable the commission to retrieve them.”

Background

Last week, the owners of a property adjacent to where the branding of a large number of Mahindra pick-ups in NDC colours was taking place were arrested by the BNI on suspicion that they had taken photographs of some vehicles and allegedly circulated pictures of the 50 Mahindra vehicles as belonging to the NCCE, which were being rebranded to support NDC's campaign ahead of the November general election.

Relatedly, the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  has accused the National Security Advisor, Mr Baba Kamara, of brazen abuse of power and incumbency to intimidate and coerce civilians.

“This is very dangerous and all Ghanaians must stand up against this unfortunate development,” Nana Akomea, the Director of Communications of the NPP, stated at a press conference in Accra last Tuesday.

NCCE has no connection

But Mr Akuamoah said the commission was not connected to the Mahindra vehicles.

“We urge the media and all political parties to desist from drawing the NCCE into any partisan brawling,” he cautioned.

The deputy NCCE chairman said the commission had records to prove that it had not used Mahindra vehicles ever in its history.

“If it is true that they belong to us and there is proper documentation to prove that, then maybe there is a kind donor somewhere who wants to donate them to us and maybe they have found their way  somewhere else, we don’t know.

“We have a funding gap which we have made a further request for but it is yet to be approved so I don’t know where this is coming from,” Mr Akuamoah said.
