5 Local players make Black Stars’ 30-man provisional squad for 2022 AFCON

The much-awaited list was announced on Tuesday at a press conference held at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Headquarters in Accra.

The local players comprise goalkeeper Richard Attah, Philemon Baffour, David Abagna, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Maxwell Abbey Quaye.

Coach Rajevac also handed call-ups to four debutantes namely: Khalid Abdul Mumin of Vitoria de Guimaraes of Portugal and Salis Abdul Samed from French Ligue 1 side, Clermont Foot.

Also in the squad is Arsenal stalwart Thomas Teye Patey who missed last month’s World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa due to injury. The midfielder has since returned to full fitness and featured regularly for Arsenal in the Premier League.

Belgium-based winger Joseph Painstil has also been invited by the Serbian for the biennial tournament in Cameroon.

The Black Stars will begin a 17-day training camp in Doha, Qatar, on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off on Sunday, January 9, 2022.
