Six bouts top open professional league February 12

Six bouts are expected to open the Ghana Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on February 12.


The novelty league which is a partnership between the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and Imax Media Group will throw out interesting fights between 12 gyms in the capital.

Renowned boxing gyms, Attoh Quarshie and Akotoku will slug it out in a super bantamweight bout on the first night of the league.

In a super featherweight clash, Charles Quartey Boxing Foundation will face Discipline Club whilst Fit Square prepare to engage Black Panthers in a heavyweight bout.

The Panix Club will come up against Palm Springs in a flyweight contest and a super lightweight fight involving The Gym and Sea View.

In the final bout of the night, Wisdom Club and Sonia Club will square off in a super lightweight clash.

According to the GBA, the participating gyms reserve the right to choose boxers to take up fights in a particular division when the need arises.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, the president of the GBA, Abraham Kotei Neequaye explained that the best gym at the end of the leage would be rewarded.

“This model offers the various boxing gyms in the country the platform to choose a particular fighter for a bout when the need arises.

“We decided to make the gyms our target because we want to reward the best at the end of the league,” he said.
Meanwhile, the league will run in two seasons throughout the year with the first season set to end in June.
