Balotelli has previous - nearly two years ago, he was forced to pay a fine for returning to his former club Nice overweight.

The 29-year-old had reportedly turned up for pre-season training in 2018 weighing 103kg.

According to French publication L'Equipe at the time, Nice were unhappy that the star had put on 15kg over the summer, taking him well above his optimum 88kg weight.

Meanwhile, the latest incident represents another uneasy battle between Balotelli and the Serie A outfit amid the striker's ongoing contract dispute.

Balotelli has reportedly been excluded from training amid his public spat with Brescia owner Massimo Cellino.

Both Balotelli and Brescia are reportedly taking legal action against each other over a variety of controversies since the coronavirus lockdown was lifted.

Balotelli's outspoken agent, Mino Raiola, had angered owner Cellino after claiming the club had discriminated against the player by not testing him for coronavirus, which the striker insisted was true.

Brescia then hit back by claiming that the accusations were slanderous and false.

A statement from the club read: 'It is important to underline that, apparently, this extended inspection will happen following the false and slanderous accusations of irresponsible people, published this morning in the media.

'On this specific issue, we have instructed our lawyers to take action against those who made these false accusations.

'Brescia wish to clarify that we respected the medical protocol to the letter and even privately hired a full-time specialist (at real expense) to deal with any possible health emergencies linked to COVID-19.

'Being accused of not respecting the rules, by one of our players no less, is shameful slander and those who said it will pay (both in economic and image terms) in the opportune venues, so we can protect the work and sacrifices of this club.

'Unfortunately, as we all know, the irresponsible behaviour of an individual can create serious risks for everyone involved, so we'll be forced to enact even more rigid measures to protect the club and its representatives.'

Balotelli had previously been turned away from the club's training ground in June because his medical certificate was invalid. The forward had been filmed arriving at training before being advised to leave by a club official.

Players across Serie A had been told to present valid medical documents on arrival at training grounds and stadiums.

It is believed that Balotelli had previously sent a medical certificate to Brescia informing them he was unable to train last month because he was suffering from gastroenteritis.

But after he had told the club he had recovered, nobody was able to deal with the paperwork allowing him to return, meaning he couldn't take part in training.
