2014 World Cup: What slogan for Ghana?

With the World Cup just around the corner, many slogans, intended to inspire the various teams during the competition, will be flying around.

Indeed, football’s world governing body, FIFA, has made slogans part of the beautiful game and has launched a bid to get fans to create slogans for their teams.

Like it had happened in the past, the best slogan will be inscribed on the team’s bus during the World Cup.

Fans have up to Thursday to submit their slogans to FIFA with the best slogans for each of the qualified 2014 FIFA World Cup national teams being presented in a shortlist for voting.  FIFA.com users will then get to vote and decide on the 32 winning slogans.(Go to FIFA.com for more information)

 The 32 winning submissions will receive a framed photograph of the team bus displaying their winning slogan and all slogan winners will also be placed into a prize draw for a trip for two to watch a knockout stage match at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. 

If slogans were anything to go by, then it is not out of place to say that Ghana’s Black Stars have lived by their slogan in the previous World Cup tournaments.

 In 2006, when the Stars qualified for their maiden World Cup, the slogan, “Go Black Stars, the stars of our world,” won the contest and truly, the Stars became the only African team to have gone past the first round, only stopped by Brazil in the second round.

In 2010 in South Africa, the Stars rode on the slogan, “Ghana, The hope of Africa, and they lived up to that billing, becoming the only African team to reach the quarter-finals of that tournament. They were eliminated at that stage through a nervous penalty kicks by Uruguay.

The Uruguayans themselves also lived by their slogan for that tournament: “The Sun Shines upon us, Go Uruguay!”

Spain, who won the 2010 World Cup had “Hope is my road, victory my destiny,” as their slogan.
