Ashia double lifts Liberty
Midfielder Kennedy Ashia, inspired Liberty Professionals to a 3-1 victory over Sekondi Hasaacas on their return to the Carl Reindorf Park Wednesday.
A pedestrian first-half saw Yussif Basigi’s Hasaacas looking content with restricting their hosts to long-range shots, with former national under-20 star Ashia, pulling the strings for Liberty in midfield.
The scientific soccer lads opened the scoring in the 63rd minute when substitute Richard Antwi’s corner was flicked home by unmarked Ashia to hand George Lamptey’s charges a deserved lead.
Tamimu Montari doubled the tally in the 67th minute when he met a delightful Daniel Kordie cross with a diving header that gave Hasaacas goalie, Melvin King, no chance.
Hasaacas pulled one back in the 75th minute by substitute Frederick Quayeson, who replaced the ineffective Michael Boakye, powering home a header.
But any expectation of a Hasmal comeback was dashed in the 79th minute when Ashia capped an all-action performance with a goal from a tap-in to hand Liberty a deserved 3-1 win and temporarily eased the relegation worries of coach Lamptey whose side moved up the log to the 13th spot.
