Faisal upset Kotoko

King Faisal Wednesday pulled the brakes on previously undefeated Kumasi Asante Kotoko in the First Capital Plus Premier League by earning a late lone goal victory over the league leaders.

Wilson Andoh scored the only goal of the match deep inside injury time, after the Kotoko goalie, Joseph Addo, failed to deal decisively with an in-swinger from Prince Boateng.

Throughout the game, Boateng had been the tormentor-in-chief of the Kotoko defence built around the pair of Kwabena Adusei and Ohene Brenyah, who had a tough time containing the Faisal attacker. It was through one of his quick runs that he shot a grounder which Kotoko goalie failed to grab at the first attempt but punched the ball back into play for a prowling Andoh to tap home the match winner.

It was the only clear chance that came the way of Alhaji Karim Gruzah’s charges who were forced to play within their half of the pitch for the greater part of the second half.

The win moved Faisal up to the ninth spot on the log while Kotoko remained on top of the pile with a 12-point lead over their nearest challenger, Accra Hearts of Oak.
