The consortium, which comprises GTV, Metro TV, GTVSports+, ETV and First Digital TV, holds the exclusive rights to telecast live matches of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica,

FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the Women’s U-20 World Cup in Canada.

Media organisations and corporate bodies who wished to telecast and advertise during the games were directed to contact the exclusive marketing agency of the consortium, Optimum Media Prime (OMP).

The Director-General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Maj (Rtd.) Albert Don-Chebe, who chaired the event, advised corporate Ghana to take advantage of the advertising opportunities these tournaments provided with 154 games to be telecast on five major networks.

He commended every member of the consortium and the three Ghanaian teams which would be participating in the three tournaments for their qualification.

Speaking at the launch, the CEO of Metro TV, Talal Fattal, revealed that the three FIFA tournaments would produce 154 matches altogether.

He also praised the Black Stars for qualifying for their third World Cup, saying, “I can’t give this address without paying homage to the Stars, coach and the technical team for their qualification. I urge them to go for the kill in Brazil”, Mr Fattal added.

The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, said: “The initiative of bringing matches live to Ghanaian homes is very commendable because not everyone can make it to Brazil and the Stars will market the nation by putting up a splendid performance”.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, assured the media and fans that the Black Stars would surely qualify from their group and that the ministry was working in that regard.
