Ashgold bank hopes on Baffour

Ashantigold CEO, Kudjoe Fianoo, has tipped the 2011/2012 Premier League goal-king, Emmanuel Baffour, to fire the miners to the top of the First Capital Plus Premier League title.

Fianoo tips the lethal striker, who has returned from a horrendous stint with Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, to recapture his old form and help Ashantigold to overtake leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Baffour bagged 21 goals at New Edubiase United to become the league’s top scorer and earn an international debut with the Black Stars against Chile in the United States, and Ashgold are banking their title hopes on him.

“Our supporters have been without the title for 18 years. We have placed second twice and been in the top four on a few other occasions. But with the introduction of Baffour into our attacking department, the sky will be the limit.

“Even though we trail leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko by seven points, the title race is far from over,” Fianoo told the Graphic Sports.

“People doubt our credentials but we all played the first round before Kotoko took that lead. In the same manner, Baffour and his team-mates can close the gap and win the title. We are still on course”, the Ashgold CEO added.

The Miners CEO praised First Capital Plus for sponsoring the League, but stated that with the support of the club’s sponsors, Anglogold, the club had been able to survive the barren spell.

Ashgold had their first match of the second round of the First Capital Plus Premier League against Berekum Chelsea postponed due to Chelsea’s continental engagement and will play away to their opponents at the Golden City Park on Wednesday.
