GFA boss hints of World Cup role for Rajevac

Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, is relishing a role for former Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac in Ghana’s World Cup campaign in Brazil.

He told GNA Sports he wished the nation could use the Serbian tactician as one of Ghana’s scouts for the World Cup, even though his wish had to be subjected to thorough discussion before the FA could take decision on re-engaging the coach.

“It is not something that has been discussed; it just came to mind in this interview, but I think we can discuss and explore the possibilities of getting him to assist us during the world,” Mr Nyantakyi said.

Rajevac, who guided the Black Stars to the quarterfinal of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, was seen at the team’s training grounds ahead of Wednesday’s international friendly against Montenegro.

During his two-year stint with the national team, Rajevac took the Black Stars to the final of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, having won silver with the home-based national team at the inaugural African Nations Championship in Cote d’Ivoire in 2009.

Mr Nyantakyi said the Serbian had been an admirer and a friend of Ghana since leaving at the end of his contract in 2010 and he had followed the exploits of Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah, who was his assistant during his successful stint in Ghana.

“We shall discuss the possibility of adding him to our scouts, because he could be of great help to the team,” the FA chief added.

“I do not really care about where help is coming from provided it will make the team better and give us the results,” he said.

Touching on scouting for the Black Stars, Mr Nyantakyi admitted there were already scouts working for the team on the quiet.

“They are doing a very good job but I cannot disclose their identity, because scouting is like espionage and must not be done in the open," he said.
