Grant lauds Tetteh as Rwanda hold Stars

Black Stars coach, Avram Grant, has praised his side for displaying good football during their 1-1 drawn game in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Amavubi of Rwanda last Saturday.

He said although he was disappointed the team could not win, he was satisfied with the way his side dominated play and created several chances.

Speaking at the post-match conference the 61-year-old manager also reserved praise for young forward Samuel Tetteh, for his work rate in the game. “I don’t like to single out players but I think he [Tetteh] is one of our promising young players, it’s the first time he started and he scored a goal,” the coach said.

He said the performance by Austria-based Tetteh was proof that he deserved to be part of the squad. “He showed talent and its good because we have a squad of 30 players plus goalkeepers from which I must choose my 23 players and he showed that he deserved to be part of it,” Grant said of the Leifering striker.

Tetteh shot Ghana ahead in the 23rd minute from a beautiful strike after he had exchanged passes with David Accam before firing past goalkeeper Eric Ndayishimiye in post for the Rwandan team. But the Amavubi came back from recess strongly but waited until the 84th minute for substitute Hakizinnya Muhadjiri to score the equalising goal from a beautiful free-kick.

Although Coach Grant stated he was disappointed with the result, the Israeli trainer was nonetheless happy he was able to achieve his aim with the game.

“This game was meant to achieve other targets than to win which we did. Other players played and they showed that they deserved to play, they showed that we can count on them,” he said

The Stars dominated the game right from the start with the first chance falling to Accam who outwitted Usengimana Faustin before goalkeeper Ndayishimiye saved the situation. Midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, who captained the team missed several scoring opportunities in a game that the Amavubi barely recorded a shot on target until their late equaliser.

Black Stars:  Razak Brimah, Harrison Afful, Jonathan Mensah, Edwin Gyimah, Daniel Amartey, David Accam, Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, Samuel Tetteh, Alfred Duncan, Frank Acheampong.
