Gyan gets favourite No.3 shirt again

Asamoah Gyan’s surprise move to Al Ahli Dubai on the Transfer Deadline Day last week, was met with an equally surprising gesture as he was initially offered the No.90 shirt at his new club instead of his favourite and known No. 3 shirt.

However, at his unveiling yesterday, the smile was brought back on his face as he was handed the No.3 shirt, the same shirt number he wore when he played for rivals, Al Ain during his first stint in the UAE League. He also wears the same shirt number for Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars

Meanwhile, the Black Stars captain has explained why he landed at Al Ahli instead of returning to his former club, indicating that Al Ain rejected him when he opted to re-join them on a loan from Chinese side Shanghai SIPG.

Gyan who became Al Ain’s most influential player after spending four seasons at the “Boss” joined his former side rivals Al Ahli on the transfer deadline day.

The move has seen Al Ain’s followers expressing their displeasure over Gyan’s move to Al Ahli.

The 30 year-old goal poacher however in an interview with GHONE TV revealed that he was rejected by Al Ain hence his decision to join Al Ahli.

“I spoke to them a couple of months ago, but they told me they’ve had their recruitment and everything was okay, so I had no chance there”.

“So moving to Al Ahli, I’ll say wasn’t my fault. It’s part of the job. I’m very happy where I am today.
