John Killa - WAFA coach

Individual errors have cost us away

West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) head coach, John Killa, has indicated that his side’s poor away form is as a result of individual errors rather than an issue with the team’s tactical play.

Last Sunday, Aminu Mohammed scored a brace for Berekum Chelsea to give them a 2-0 win at the Golden City Park to ensure WAFA remained winless in five away matches.

However, the Academy boys are unbeaten at home, winning four out of five matches at their Sogakope base.

In a post-match interview last Sunday,Dutchman Killa explained that his side was undone by an early red card shown to WAFA’s Kennedy Boateng, as they did not expect such an unpleasant experience at Berekum.

“Our preparations before the game were not that we expected a red card, but when the red card came, it was a mistake. We conceded a penalty in addition to the red card and at that moment, I had to reorganise the team.

“I think the boys did well, especially in the last 10 minutes of the first half when we created some free kicks... not too many. But the game was changing and you have to organise your team very well if you are playing with 10 men,” Killa told journalists after the match.

“We were waiting for the equaliser in the second half because we knew we had some chances coming between the second half.

But 2-0 was a very difficult score line to get a good result here so we are very disappointed,” Killa lamented.

The coach indicated that their losses away have been occasioned mainly by isolated mistakes by his players but improved individual performances could turn things around for the young team in the campaign.

“We had a draw against Hearts so we are not always losing away. It’s just a process with a lot of young players. We missed our left defender who went outside the country and he’s not coming soon, and we still have some players with long injuries. But we have some new young players who need some more time to adjust.

WAFA next play host to Inter Allies at the Sogakope Park this weekend.
