The consortium, which comprises GTV, Metro TV, GTVSports+, ETV and First Digital TV, has the exclusive rights to telecast live matches of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, FIFA World Cup in Brazil and U-20 Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Media organisations and corporate bodies who wish to acquire the telecast and advertising rights are to do so through the exclusive marketing agency of the consortium, Optimum Media Prime (OMP).

The directive was at the launch of the media and broadcast rights which took place at the La Palm Beach Hotel last Wednesday.

The Director-General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Maj (Rtd.) Albert Don-Chebe, Chairman of the event, advised corporate Ghana to take advantage of the advertising opportunities these tournaments would provide with 154 games to be telecast on five major networks.

He seized the opportunity to thank every member of the Consortium and also the three Ghanaian teams that would be participating in the various tournaments for their qualifications.

Speaking at the launch, the CEO of Metro TV, Talal Fattal reiterated that “there will be three FIFA tournaments this year which will be made up of 154 matches altogether”.

He also praised the Black Stars for their qualification to the World Cup saying, “I can’t give this address without paying homage to the Stars, Coach and the technical team for their qualification, so I urge them to go for the kill in Brazil,” Mr Fattal added.

The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi said “the initiative of bringing matches live to Ghanaian homes is very commendable because not everyone can make it to Brazil and the Stars will market the nation by putting up a splendid performance”.

In another vote of confidence for the team, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, assured the media and fans that, the Black Stars would surely qualify from their group and that the ministry was working very hard to that effect.

“We will surely qualify from our group and my ministry is working very hard to make sure the Stars go through,” he concluded.
