Premiership thrills today

Accra Hearts of Oak coach, Mohammed Polo, continues his battle to win over the Phobian faithful with a tricky home duel against Wa All Stars when the First Capital Plus Premier League resumes today.

The pick of the five second round openers sees Hearts in third place with seven points adrift of leaders Kumasi Asante Kotoko, as they take on All Stars at the Accra Stadium on the back of a 0-3 loss to the same side in the first round.

The Phobians seek to revive their stuttering title challenge with five new additions, including Ivorian import, Edikeu Berenger, former defender Philip Boampong, Abdul Manan Mustapha, Gerald Odupong Wellington and a return from injury by influential midfielder Obed Ansah.

The Rainbow boys showed good form during the recess, winning seven and drawing one in as many friendly games, albeit against lower division sides. That might give Hearts the needed confidence to avenge the humiliation suffered in Wa at the close of the first round.

All Stars, now under the stewardship of Coach James Corbblah, also acquired young striker Michael Mensah on loan from Kotoko during the break.

As the new man at the helm, Corbblah would like nothing better than to complete a famous double over the Phobians.

Other encounters slated for this afternoon include Bechem United versus King Faisal in Bechem, Hasaacas versus Amidaus Professionals at Essipong, Liberty Professionals travel to take on Randy Abbey’s Heart of Lions at Kpando, while New Edubiase United host Aduana Stars at Bekwai.

Ghana’s four representatives in Africa club competitions have had their games postponed to February 12 when Kotoko battle Ebusua Dwarfs in Kumasi, Medeama SC face Inter Allies at Tema and Berekum Chelsea play Ashantigold in Berekum.
