The two sides drew 2-2 in regulation time but Upper Axim proved superior in the shootout to lift the Unity Cup donated by TEN Partners.

The competition was an initiative of TEN Partners and was organised by Youth Bridge Foundation (YBF), a youth-focused non-governmental organisation (NGO) implementing integrated youth development projects of the TEN Partners in the municipality. It formed part of activities marking this year’s Kundum Festival and also aimed at promoting peace and unity among the people in the Nzema East Municipality to develop the area.

The fun-filled event, which also included a durbar and beach football, was graced by the Paramount Chief of Upper Axim, Nana Kwaw Tentenele; the Municipal Chief Executive of Nzema East, Mr James Atta Kakra Baidoe and officials of the Municipal Assembly, as well as divisional chiefs from both the Lower and Upper Axim Traditional areas.

In an address, Nana Kwaw Tentenele expressed his appreciation to the TEN Partners and the organisers of the event and pledged to support such activities aimed at promoting youth development in the area.

Mr Seth Oteng, Executive Director of YBF, called on the Ghana Education Service and District Assemblies to consider integrating beach sports into the inter-school calendar, particularly for the four coastal regions – Western, Central, Greater Accra and Volta – to promote social cohesion and environmental sanitation at the beaches and talent identification and development.

Meanwhile, the Anlo Beach in the Shama District will be the venue of beach football  tomorrow during the inaugural inter-district beach sports festival involving youth teams from communities in the Shama District.
