Badminton: Ghana win 4 medals in Mauritius

The national badminton team won four medals, comprising one silver and three bronze, at the just ended Rose Hill Series Championship held at Mauritius over the weekend.

Emmanuel Donkor and Gifty Mensah won silver medal for Ghana after battling with Mauritius pair, Edoo and Lousison, in the mixed doubles final event.

Referee 'shot dead after showing player red card'

A referee was murdered on the football pitch just moments after he showed a player a red card in Argentina.

Cesar Flores, 48, was shot three times, in the head, chest and neck, by the attacker who is still at large and being hunted by authorities.

Another player was also shot in the chest but survived - 25-year-old Walter Zarate was rushed to hospital but is said to be recovering.

The incident, which took place in Campo de la Bribera, the provincial capital of Cordoba, Argentina, on Sunday, saw the man run onto the pitch and pull a gun from his backpack as the game was being played.

"It all happened during the match," police spokesman told the Efe news agency. "We don't know what happened with the referee but the player was angry and went to get his gun and killed him."

Elect regional officers - GHA

The Ghana Handball Association (GHA) has directed all its regional associations to elect officers ahead of its national congress next month.

A statement issued by the GHA last Friday explained that the election of regional officers would pave way for the asociation to organise its national congress, where an executive would be elected to steer the affairs of handball in Ghana for the next four years.

The statement, signed by the Secretary-General of the association, Charles Amofah, disclosed that all regional associations had already been directed to furnish the national secretariat in Accra with the dates and venues for their elections.

Platini appeal set for today

Michel Platini's appeal against his eight-year ban from all football-related activities will be heard by FIFA's Appeals Committee today.

The suspended UEFA president, 60, was banned by the world governing body's ethics committee in December, along with its president Sepp Blatter.

Both were found guilty of breaches surrounding a £1.3m ($2m) "disloyal payment" to Platini.

Blatter's appeal against his own ban is due to be heard tomorrow.
