New trophy for SIC Nyemitei SWAG Cup match

A new trophy will be at stake when Kumasi Asante kotoko and AshantiGold clash in this year’s SIC Nyemitei SWAG Cup match at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, November 29.

SIC Insurance Company Limited, headline sponsors of the annual cup match, has procured a brand new  21-inch trophy to replace the existing one which had been used for over a decade and was won by Heart of Lions in 2009 when the SIC Nyemitei SWAG Cup was last played.

The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday at the media centre of the Accra Sports Stadium.

World Cup qualifier

Ghana's Black Stars on Tuesday beat the least ranked team in Africa, Les Coelecantes of the Comoros Island, 2-0 to qualify for the group stage of the African qualifiers for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Playing on a rainy turf at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, the Stars laboured in the first quarter of the game before man of the match, Mubarak Wakaso, broke the back of the defensive-minded visitors with a picturesque curling free kick outside the penalty area after 18 minutes.

The goal brought the over 20,000 fans on to their feet, while Jordan Ayew  added the second after a goal-mouth scrimmage to seal the deal in the 85th minute.

Mr. Herbert Mensah, President of the Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU), hailed Jonah Lomu as one of the Rugby’s greatest ever when the shocking news about his passing broke early this morning.
