Starlets will shine at FIFA U-17 World Cup

Ghana U-17 coach, Samuel Paa Kwesi Fabian says Africa will be well represented at the forthcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup in India and believes the Black Starlets will shine and maintain the team’s proud tradition at the global stage.

The Starlets completed the preliminary round of the African championship with a scoreless draw with Guinea at Stade de l’Amitie in Libreville last Saturday, finishing as the top side in Group A and securing a semi-final spot.

Middle distance runner Alex Amankwah became the fourth Ghanaian athlete to qualify for the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championship in London after setting a National Record of 1minute:44.80 seconds to win the Georgia Meet of Champions on Friday night in the USA.

Amankwah, 25, dipped below the 1:45.90seconds entry standard to claim his ticket for the Championship.

Wassaman FC knocked out Kumasi King Faisal from the ongoing MTN FA Cup to qualify for the next stage with a 2-1 victory in a drama filled game played at the Baba Yara sports Stadium yesterday.

Hearts thump Royals 4-0

Accra Hearts of Oak advanced to the next stage of the MTN FA Cup competition when they defeated Akim Oda-based Kotoku Royals 4-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

Notwithstanding some controversial decisions by referee Dan Dogbetor, Royals played a good game and could have scored at least two goals but lacked the finesse to convert their numerous chances into goals and, therefore, bowed out to their more experienced opponents who scored two goals in each half to progress to the Round of 16.

Work to resume on OlympiAfrica Sports Complex

Work is to resume by the end of July this year on the abandoned Amasaman Community Sports Complex in the Ga West District of the Greater Accra Region.
