2025 Stanbic-Asantehene Invitational Golf tournament comes off in Kumasi

The 2025 edition of the Stanbic-Asantehene Invitational Golf Tournament was last Saturday (December 13) held in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

It is an annual flagship sporting event held under the distinguished patronage of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. 

Hosted at the prestigious Kumasi Royal Golf Course and sponsored by Stanbic Bank, the tournament brought together elite golfers, high-profile dignitaries, business leaders, and valued clients of Stanbic Bank from across Ghana.

The one-day competition was teed off by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll.

The tournament reinforces Stanbic Bank’s commitment to strengthening relationships, celebrating excellence, and supporting sporting and community development in Ghana.

The 2025 edition under the theme “The Gold Standard”, reflected the Bank’s aspiration to deliver unmatched service excellence, premium customer experiences, and consistent leadership in the financial services sector.

Winners

At the end of the tournament, Bernard Kwasi Dwomoh of the Kumasi Golf Club won the Cate-gory ‘A’ event with 38 stableford points, followed by Bismark Ntiedu Dapaah with 38 stableford points and Ekow Nyarko placing third on countback.

Ben Baah of the Nsuta Golf Club, Maxwell Danso Osei and Isaac Amoakoh Mensah emerged winners in the Category ‘B’ with 40, 35 and 34 stableford points, respectively.

In the Seniors Category, Kwaku Okyere, Kwashie Avemegah emerged winners with 33 and 32 stableford points with Chris Apau-Opong placing third on countback.

The ladies category also saw Vivian Dick of the Kumasi Royal Golf Club, Samira Abdullah winning with 34, 33 stableford points with Pearl Andrews placing third on countback.

Three winners from each of the four categories were awarded with a coveted trophy and other prizes.
Special one

Speaking to the media, the Executive Head, Brand and Marketing, Stanbic Bank, Mawuko Afadzinu, said the tournament was a special one held for the past 17 years in honour of the Asantehene.

He said it was a moment for them to come together with their clients and golf community to encourage the sports and to reflect on things that are important to businesses, communities and the nation at large.

“It is been a very excellent platform for very deep conversations on various matters of concern. It is an event that we hold very and cherish highly and also a tradition that we are really committed to” he said.

He added that the bank was not only supporting golf as it had a broad field of disciplines that are provided support including tennis, swimming cycling, arm wrestling and football.
Amateur tournament

For his part, the Head of Operations, Kumasi Royal Gulf Club, Professor Bernard Kofi Baiden, said the emphasis of the amateur tournament was more on interactions and the general play and not necessarily playing for money.

He said “this is more for networking among members in the various groups for their mutual benefit beyond the tournament”.
