Accra Polo Club beat South African counterparts

 

Accra Polo Club beat their South African counterparts 2-1 in a much-anticipated return leg encounter at the Underberg Polo Club.

The Ghanaian side won the first match 7-4 and South Africa took the second 7-5 in the South Africa Airways-sponsored international friendly which saw the former receiving a beautiful Zulu Shield from the airline to symbolise the new partnership.

 

Ghana’s team was led by club president Kwakye Dopoah-Dei, and included George Agyemang, Eric Gene, Sowee Saneo and Harold Awuah-Darko, while their South African counterparts featured Rory Quin, Jack Oletoto, Lionel Foster and Kate Holmes.

Ghana led 1-0 in the first match but the host dominated the second match and took a 3-2 lead before making it 6-5 in the third match.

The leader of the Ghanaian delegation, Kwakye Dopoah Dei, who is also the president of Ghana Real Estates Developers Association (GREDA), was happy about the performance of his team, as well as the new partnership deal struck with

South African Airways (SAA), the leading carrier on the African continent, which celebrated its 80th-year of gracing the global skies by sponsoring the match.

 

SAA’s partnership with Accra Polo club is in view of the large number of individuals and multinationals patronsof the sport which is growing in Ghana. Earlier in the year, the South African Polo team flew to Accra for a friendly with the Accra Polo Club
