Allotey, Ama headline Friday showdown at Bukom
Some of boxing’s most exciting emerging names will clash under the bright lights of the Bukom Boxing Arena this Friday as Legacy Rise Sports Promotions delivers a star-packed third fight night, headlined by high-stakes battles and rising global talent.
Branded “The Rise Continues”, the April 10 show is stacked with compelling match-ups, featuring a mix of rising Ghanaian stars and battle-hardened international contenders eager to make a statement on one of the sport’s most vibrant stages.
Leading the charge is Ghana’s red-hot prospect Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey, whose rapid rise has made him one of the most talked-about young fighters on the continent.
He faces Namibia’s dangerous Jonas Erastus in a WBA Africa Gold Super Flyweight title clash, with Allotey chasing an extraordinary fifth title in under two years as a professional.
With the event set for global streaming on DAZN, promoters are once again projecting Ghana as a serious boxing destination and a strategic hub of sports tourism in Africa.
International contests
International flavour on the night is strong, with a contingent of foreign fighters already in Accra and relishing the challenge ahead. Among them is UK-born boxer of Ghanaian heritage Sedem Ama, who will defend her WBA Africa Women’s Super-Welterweight title against Portugal-based Cape Verdean Ivanusa Moreira in what promises to be a fiercely contested duel between two unbeaten fighters.
Speaking after an intense media workout in Accra yesterday under her trainer, Will Jones, Ama struck a confident tone ahead of the encounter.
“I’m going to be sharp, strong and get the win by any means necessary. I’m undefeated, and she’s undefeated. She’s taller than me, so I know she will come in to fight. But I am ready,” she declared in response to Moreira’s bold claims of taking the title.
Clearly relishing her return to Ghana, she also rallied local support. “I am happy to be back in Ghana and acclimatising to the heat. To Ghanaians, please come and support me on Friday at the Bukom Boxing Arena. By the grace of God, we are going to get another victory.”
In other encounters, Belgium-based Guinean Ibrahim Diallo, who stunned fans by handing Ghana’s Sampson Segbedzi his first professional defeat last December, returns to face local favourite Godson Amuzu in a six-round contest.
Dutch lightweight Jursly “The Gorilla” Vargas takes on Ghana’s Isaac “Zongo Fire” Dowuona in an explosive eight-round encounter, while hard-hitting Obaro Eradajaye squares off against undefeated national champion Ahmed Abdula for the vacant WBA Africa Cruiserweight title.
The fighters will have one final opportunity to size each other up at tomorrow’s public weigh-in at Republic Bar & Grill in Osu, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling night of elite boxing action.
