Amartey gets winning start as Leicester stretch lead

A win, but more importantly, a good performance is the dream of every player making a debut and that was what Ghanaian defender Daniel Amartey had as his side, Leicester City continued their onward match towards the English Premier League title with a 1-0 against Norwich City.

Amartey, who  joined Jeffrey Schlupp at Leicester in last January’s transfer window from FC Copenhagen, was handed a start by his manager Claudio Ranieri and went on to play 78 minutes before being replaced by Jose Leonardo Ulloa, who would come on to score Leicester’s winning goal on the 89th minute.

The versatile defender earned first team selection to  replace the suspended Danny Simpson

Amartey’s Ghana teammate, Schlupp also returned from injury with an appearance as a substitute on the  69th minute, replacing Shinji Okazaki.

And their coach, Claudio Ranieri was pleased with their performance as he described their inclusion as part of a tactical plan for the two halves.

“I am very happy because it was important to restart after the Arsenal defeat.

“Amartey did well on his debut and he showed just how ready he is to compete. He fought hard and proved to be just what Norwich needed.

“We expected a battle and well done to the Norwich players because it was a good battle,” he said.

“In the first half we tried to find a solution but it was difficult because Norwich played to try to maintain the clean sheet.

“In the second half they wanted to win and it was an open match. They could have scored and we could have scored. It was amazing.

“I tried to make some changes to spread out their defensive line with Schlupp on the left and Albrighton on the right, and also I put on Ulloa because I wanted another goalscorer in the box.

“It was a good choice.”
