Appiah calls on British High Commissioner

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Jon Benjamin, has described Stephen Appiah's testimonial match, which takes place on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium, as the best opportunity to commemorate the playing career and achievements of one of Ghana's greatest ever players.

Speaking yesterday at the British High Commission after receiving an official invite to attend the match and a fund-raising dinner which takes place on Friday at the Banquet Hall of the State House, Mr Benjamin urged all football fans to throng the stadium to honour Appiah for the last time on the field after years of commitment to the national cause.

"This Saturday is a huge opportunity for not only Black Stars fans but all football fans to commemorate the playing career and achievements of one of Ghana's greatest players.”

"Stephen's career has been extraordinary and personally I am sad that we never got the opportunity to see Stephen at his best in the English Premier League,” he noted.

Mr Benjamin also stated that the High Commission was honoured to be called upon to celebrate the achievements of Appiah.

The CEO of Primeval Media Ghana Limited, Larry Opare Otoo, later announced that the testimonial match, which starts at 4.00 p.m. on Saturday, would feature a select side of Appiah's former teammates taking on the Black Stars.

He also disclosed that attendance to Friday’s fund-raising dinner at the Banquet Hall of the State House was strictly by invitation.
