The effort of the Ghana Armwresting Federation to popularise the sport seem to be paying off as the latest competition held at the homecoming of the Accra Academy Old Students drew an impressive participation.

Though it was on a non-scoring basis, the fact that most of the old boys also registed for the competition, helped the GAF achieve its target.

Charles Osei-Asibey, the president of the GAF told the Graphic Sports in an interview that “ the association was highly thrilled at the turnout.”

“ As you know, armwrestling, though a traditional sport, is now being popularised with its adoption as an international sport. At the moment, our focus is to make it popular among fans and in schools, as we develop and spot talents.

“We took advantage of the event at Accra Academy and I must say, the turn out was more than expected. For the organisers to put the football gala on hold for the armwrestling competition to end, was just an indication of what was achieved.,” Osei Asibey emphasised.

He also revealed that a team has been going round the country with the sole aim of formally introducing the sport to the regions.
