Azumah Nelson Sports Complex to be renamed after $4 million renovations

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah has announced that the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex will be renamed the Azumah Nelson Youth and Sports Centre when renovation works on the dilapidated facility is completed in the next 16 months.

According to Mr Asiamah who cut the sod for work to begin on the project Thursday morning, the project will cost an estimated GHC 18 million ($4 million) and forms part of President Akufo-Addo's commitment to developing sports infrastructure.

The GHC 18 million sum will cover the renovation as well as the construction of new facilities including a standard football pitch, an eight-lane tartan track, a tennis court, handball court, a car park, a swimming pool as well as an ICT centre, counselling centre and an entrepreneurship centre.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah touring the construction site with other officials of the Ministry.

Mr Asiamah also disclosed that similar facilities with a seating capacity of 5,000 will also be constructed in the 10 regional capitals of the country at a cost of $1.8 million each.

He later went on a tour of the construction site with dignitaries including World Boxing Hall of Famer, Azumah Nelson, dribbling magician Mohammed Polo as well as businessman Kennedy Somuah Agyapong alias Kenpong.
