Beach Soccer: Havedzi Mighty Warriors retain Premier League title
Havedzi Mighty Warriors have etched their name into the annals of Ghanaian beach soccer history, clinching the 2023/2024 Beach Soccer Premier League title for an unprecedented second time.
They achieved that feat after a commanding 5-2 victory over Accra-based Layoca Beach Soccer Club at the Ada Beach Soccer Arena last Saturday.
Warriors, winners of Premier League Zone Two, were in superb form, demonstrating their dominance throughout the competition.
Their journey to the finals was marked by an impressive season, finishing the league with nine wins, two draws, and four losses from 15 matches.
They scored 46 goals and conceded 39, accumulating a total of 29 points. Their title makes them the second-most successful club in the league’s history behind three-time winners Keta Sunset Sports.
The Warriors were awarded a trophy, a cash prize, and individual accolades, including Mawukoenya Johnson Nyadedzor, who was named Most Valuable Player of the match.
Warriors’ player and coach, Innocent Ku-Mensah, expressed immense pride in his team’s achievement. "This victory is the result of hard work, dedication, and discipline from the players and the entire management," he told GNA Sports.
"We've been preparing since October, after the zonal league matches, and it’s a huge milestone to win the trophy for the second time. It’s a moment we’ll always remember in the history of the league."
He revealed their determination to build on the success by scouting for new talents and working tirelessly to defend their title next season.
The Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association Beach Soccer Committee, Reuben Dzidodo Adjahoe, congratulated the Warriors on their achievement, urging corporate entities, stakeholders and individuals to support the development of beach soccer in the region.
