Bechem hammer Hearts

Bechem United last Sunday showed class as they hammered title aspirants Accra Hearts of Oak 3-1 in a crucial Premier League encounter at the Nana Gyeabour park at Bechem.

And the man who initiated the damage was striker Abednego Tetteh whose hat-trick completed the rout as the Phobians’ dreams of recapturing the Premier League title appeared to have been blown away after the defeat. Skipper Owusu Bempah got the consolation goal for Hearts.

The homesters lived up to their pre-match vow to stop Hearts and when they carried the fight to the Phobians in the early moments of the game and after numerous forays, opened the scores in the 18th minute after some sloppy defending by Hearts which enabled the hungry Tetteh to fire past goalkeeper Samuel Akurugu.

Bechem, who have qualified for the finals of this year’s FA Cup, had several chances to bury the Phobians, but Akurugu denied them their second with a superb save of another Tetteh attempt before the end of the half.

Hearts resumed the second half with Samuel Yeboah being presented with an opportunity to put the Phobians back into the game but floundered as his low drive whisked past the post. Two minutes after the miss, striker Tetteh increased the tally for the homesters.

He then struck again in the 80th minute before Bempah fetched the consolation in injury time.
