Black Stars drops six places in latest FIFA World Rankings

Ghana’s Black Stars have fallen six places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, following disappointing performances in their recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The senior men’s national team, led by coach Otto Addo, faced Angola and Niger during the September international break, with underwhelming results.

Ghana suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium before drawing 1-1 with Niger in Morocco on matchday two of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. These results have seen the Black Stars drop from 64th to 70th in the global rankings.

Several countries, including Georgia, Burkina Faso, the United Arab Emirates, Albania, and Cape Verde, have leapfrogged Ghana in the updated standings.

On the continental stage, the Black Stars have also slid in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rankings, dropping two places to 14th. Burkina Faso and Cape Verde now sit above them.

Morocco has ascended to the top of the CAF rankings, with Senegal falling to second. Egypt, Ivory Coast, and Tunisia round out the top five in Africa.

Ghana will be looking to reverse their fortunes as they continue their qualification campaign for the 2025 AFCON tournament.

Globally, world champions Argentina retained the top spot of the ranking, followed by France, Spain, England and Brazil in that order.
