Blue Skies dominate 2025 UKGCC Corporate Sports Jamboree

Blue Skies Ghana Ltd. made a strong impact at the third edition of the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC) Corporate Sports Jamboree, clinching victories in six out of the 10 events they participated in.

With around 70 participants dressed in their signature yellow zest tops and black bottoms, the Blue Skies team exuded confidence, setting the stage for an exciting competition on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex in Burma Camp, Accra.

The event kicked off with a high-energy 30-minute dance aerobics session, where Blue Skies showcased their unmatched enthusiasm and fitness, leaving spectators in awe.

Throughout the day, the team's energy and athleticism were on full display as they competed in multiple sports, securing impressive victories in events such as the sack race (both male and female categories), the 50m race (female), football (male), basketball (male), volleyball (male), and tug-of-war (male).

In addition to their sporting achievements, Blue Skies earned several individual and team accolades, including Best Goalkeeper, Most Valuable Player in the football competition, Top Scorer, Team Spirit Award, Most Enthusiastic Team, Best Sportsmanship, and Fan Favourite Team.

Other institutions that participated in the event included the British High Commission in Accra, and UKGCC member companies, Blue Skies Ghana Ltd., Vibe Consult, Nii Plants and Car Rentals, Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, Golden Exotics Ltd., Charterhouse Ghana Ltd., and Appolonia City. 

UKGCC member companies such as Standard Chartered Ghana Ltd., Goldkey Properties and Appolonia City were also in attendance.

Dedication to fitness

The Physical Fitness Instructor at Blue Skies Keep Fit Club, Sampson Kwawukume, credited the team’s success to the company’s commitment to regular training and a strong focus on fitness.

He explained that Blue Skies places a high value on employee well-being, believing it directly contributes to increased productivity. As a result, the company invests in top-quality sports equipment for its staff.

"Blue Skies is a fitness community with incredible talent. We have footballers, volleyball players, basketball players—people with diverse athletic skills working here. We also have a fantastic sports facility, which we make full use of by training three times a week," he shared.

“At Blue Skies, we believe that the well-being of our employees is key to their productivity. We take our employees' health and fitness seriously, and we invest in maintaining it,” he added.

Kwawukume emphasised the team’s consistent excellence, saying, "When we participate in events like this, we stand out. Blue Skies is synonymous with excellence, and that shows every time we compete. These accomplishments reflect the company's commitment to fitness and teamwork, solidifying our reputation as leaders in corporate sporting events."

He expressed gratitude to the management of Blue Skies for their continued support of the Keep Fit Club, which has been instrumental in their success both on and off the field.

Promoting active lifestyle

Executive Director of the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce (UKGCC), Adjoba Kyiamah, explained that hosting the third consecutive Corporate Sports Jamboree is part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to promoting active lifestyles among the employees of its member companies.

She noted that the event, held last Saturday, underscores UKGCC's dedication to healthy living throughout the year.

“Our goal is to inspire individuals to embrace physical activity and teamwork through a variety of engaging challenges. We also aim to create a fun, relaxed atmosphere that encourages meaningful connections between member companies, while boosting morale by offering a break from the daily work routine,” she said.

Kyiamah also highlighted UKGCC’s networking events, where members have the opportunity to interact with key figures from both the UK and Ghana governments, industry stakeholders, and other business support organisations. “I encourage businesses to join the UK-Ghana Chamber of Commerce to access our wealth of resources and opportunities, which can help position them for growth,” she added.
