Brighton still searching for striker after failed Raphael Dwamena transfer

Goalless Brighton will continue their search for a new striker until the transfer window shuts, says manager Chris Hughton. The Seagulls looked to have secured the signature of 21-year-old Ghana international Raphael Dwamena before his move from Zurich collapsed on Friday evening after a failed medical.

Brighton picked up their first point of the season in a 0-0 draw with Watford on Saturday, but without a goal in the Premier League as yet, Hughton admits the club must find a new source of goals before the transfer window shuts.

"It's disappointing but what we have to do is move on from there, unfortunately for us, and more unfortunate for the lad," Hughton said, when asked about Dwamena's failed transfer.

"In the end, you can't do anything about it.

"It's one of those things that happens, it's not a usual set of circumstances, but all we can do is move on from that and go on to the next set of targets.

"We've got to work as hard as we can to make this squad as good as we can for the end of this window."

Israel international Tomer Hemed led the line for Brighton at Vicarage Road on Saturday, with fellow forwards Glenn Murray and Sam Baldock both suffering early-season injury problems.

But Hughton admits competition between clubs for transfer targets is increasing in the run up to Deadline Da.y

"It's a tough market, all I can guarantee is that we'll work as hard as we can," he added.

"But we're not the only ones. There's a lot of teams and a lot of clubs looking to do business in these last four or five days and I think it will be a busy period."
