CAF to fill Nyantakyi’s void following his resignation

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that it will hold a vote at an Extraordinary Congress on September 30, 2018 in Egypt to fill the vacant position of the First Vice-President and its seat on the FIFA Council, following the resignation of Kwesi Nyantakyi.

Last Friday, the troubled Ghana Football Association (GFA) Nyantakyi resigned from the post almost after being banned for 90 days by world football governing body, FIFA, for his complicity in the latest expose by Ghanaian investigative journalist, Anas Amereyaw Anas.

As well as the FIFA suspension, Nyantakyi also resigned as president of the GFA last Friday following an executive committee meeting.

Yesterday, he also informed the continental governing body of his decision to resign from both positions at CAF and FIFA.

Nyantakyi’s decision is a fallout from the Anas exposé released last week in which he was seen apparently accepting a gift of US$65,000 "shopping money" from an undercover journalist. He denies any wrongdoing.

Nyantakyi and other football officials from around the continent were secretly filmed by undercover journalists receiving cash gifts as part of a documentary by controversial Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
