Coach Nurudeen confident of steering Karela to safety

Karela United Head Coach, Nurudeen Amadu, has expressed strong confidence in his ability to guide the club to safety and avoid relegation at the end of the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.

The experienced tactician, who was appointed at the beginning of the second round, believes his track record and commitment will be enough to help the Tamale-based side retain their top-flight status.

Speaking in an interview with the Graphic Sports yesterday, Coach Nurudeen stated that he was brought in for one reason — to help the club survive — and he was determined to deliver.

“There’s no way I’ll lead this team to relegation,” he declared. “I’ve done it before with King Faisal and I’m ready to do it again with Karela United.”

The coach admitted that the team was not among the strongest in the league, especially due to its reliance on relatively young and inexperienced players.

However, he revealed that club management is already planning to strengthen the squad with experienced players ahead of next season.

“The team is not very strong compared to others in the Premier League, but I am here and determined to help Karela escape relegation — which was why I was brought in,” he emphasised.

Coach Nurudeen believes Karela has a realistic chance of surviving the drop, especially now that Nsoatreman FC has already been relegated. According to him, only two more teams would join them, and Karela would not be one of them.

“It is possible we can escape relegation because now that Nsoatreman is gone, there are only two teams to join them and we will not be among the two teams,” he said.

He also disclosed that after his departure from FC Samartex, Karela United’s management approached him, convinced that he had the experience and capability to turn things around.

A former coach of Kotoku Royals and an ex-player of King Faisal, Coach Nurudeen noted that the Premier League was a highly competitive environment where relying solely on youthful players was not enough to get results.

Currently, Karela United has climbed out of the relegation zone and at 15th on the league table with 25 points, two points ahead of Accra Lions, who occupy the highest spot among the bottom three teams.
