Premier League side Techiman Eleven Wonders have appointed veteran trainer Josef Emmanuel Sarpong as their new head coach following the resignation of Nii Odartey Lamptey.
The club confirmed the appointment in an official statement yesterday, expressing confidence that the experienced gaffer will help steer the team out of troubled waters.
“Eleven Wonders FC are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Joseph Emmanuel Sarpong as Head Coach, effective immediately,” the statement read.
“With over 15 years of coaching experience, including league promotions and cup successes, Coach Sarpong brings proven tactical expertise and passion to help revive our campaign.”
Coach Sarpong, a respected figure on the local football scene, boasts a wealth of experience, having managed several top-flight clubs, including Okwawu United, Hearts of Oak, Asante Kotoko, Dawu Youngsters, Liberty Professionals, Aduana Stars and Ebusua Dwarfs.
He is fondly remembered for guiding Aduana Stars to a strong finish in the Ghana Premier League in 2013 and nurturing numerous young talents during his stint with Liberty Professionals in the early 2000s.
His appointment comes at a crucial time for the Techiman-based side, enduring a poor run of form in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
Under Odartey Lamptey, Eleven Wonders failed to record a single victory in their first eight matches, drawing three and losing five. The team sits 17th on the league log with just three points from a possible 24.
Lamptey, a former Black Stars and Aston Villa midfielder, decided to step down after internal discussions with the management over the team’s uninspiring results. His resignation was accepted by the board, paving the way for Sarpong’s appointment.
Sarpong is expected to inject confidence and structure into the team’s play as they seek to turn their season around. The veteran coach is renowned for his motivational skills and ability to transform struggling sides into competitive units.
