Di Maria's home burgled

Thugs attempted to gain access to the Man United record signing's property last Saturday night and following the incident, Di Maria has stepped up the security measures.

Angel Di Maria's house is being patrolled by security guards following an attempted break-in by raiders.

Di Maria, United's record £59.7million signing, was inside the house eating with his wife Jorgelina and 21-month-old daughter Mia last Saturday night when the robbers struck.

The gang broke the patio windows at the Argentina World Cup star's Cheshire mansion but fled when an alarm sounded, leaving the property empty-handed.

Guards from Controlled Events Solutions, the firm that handles all of United's security and looks after the first-team squad when they travel, are said to be guarding Di Maria's home.

Di Maria had earlier featured in United's 3-1 win over Leicester at Old Trafford and had returned to his home with his family when the raiders struck.

United refused to confirm whether Di Maria's home had been assigned round-the-clock security following the attempted break-in.

Last Monday night, Di Maria was with the Manchester United squad in a hotel ahead of the Cambridge United FA Cup match, and his family is not thought to be at the property.
