Dogboe retains WBO, WBA titles

Promising boxer Isaac Dogboe defeated Michael Pappoe to retain his WBO Africa and Interim WBA Pan African Featherweight titles with a unanimous victory last Saturday at the Azumah Nelson Sports Complex at North Kaneshie.

It was a one-sided fight which saw Dogboe record his ninth professional win, with all three judges — Erasmus Owu, Clement Ashun and Nay Mensah — each scoring the fight 120-107 in favour of the former Olympian.

Dogboe, 21, who turned professional last year, put up an impressive fight in front of a crowd, that included boxing legend Barimah Azumah Nelson, that saw the older and more experienced Pappoe — who came into the bout with a record of 13 wins and two defeats — look a pale shadow of himself and little threat to the diminutive champion.

In other supporting bouts of the ‘Night of the Rising Stars’, Samuel Tetteh Antwi made light work of Emmanuel Odartey Lamptey to record a third round technical knockout (TKO) in their eight-round welterweight fight.

Sherif Quaye (aka Trojan Horse) recorded a second round TKO victory over Jonathan Nii Akrofi in their eight-round lightweight contest, while Aziz Quartey beat Ezekiel Affelay with a third round TKO victory in their welterweight contest.

On a night of knockouts, Nathaniel Nunkpe stopped Ezekiel Annan with a fourth round TKO in a thrilling lightweight contest.
