Fianoo, who polled 63 votes as against 13 each by his three contenders — Kofi Poku, Isaac Koomson and Nana Safo Oduro — described his victory as “sweet” but acknowledged the huge responsibility at stake.

In his acceptance speech, Fianoo said, “It is a good victory and I’m happy that it came my way because all the other contenders were equally qualified to win. However, I guess my message went down well with the delegates and I believe the personality also made an impact.

“It is a sweet victory but it, no doubt places a huge responsibility on me and my team to get the association back on track.

“The delegates have reposed their trust and confidence in me and I dare not let them down,” he added.

After the announcement of the result, Fianoo’s competitors conceded defeat and congratulated him, saying they were ready to support him and his executives to revive the association.

Safo Oduro, in an interview with the Graphic Sports said, “Of course, I’m disappointed but the delegates have spoken and we have to respect their decision. We all want the best for GHALCA and once the majority have made the choice, we all have to go along and help in whatever way we can to get the association to where we all desire to see it.”

In all, 110 delegates cast their votes — two each for the Premier League clubs, one each for Division One League clubs, with the Regional Football Associations presenting three delegates each.
