Five countries, five brands, five shows: ABF marks fifth anniversary with bold new direction

The Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) will tomorrow, Wednesday, November 19, 2025, unveil its landmark fifth-anniversary edition at the University of Ghana Basketball Court, Legon.

The launch, scheduled for 3 p.m., marks the beginning of a refreshed and ambitious direction for the festival, driven by a unique “Five Theme” that ties together its growth, programming and creative vision.

Organisers say the Five Theme reflects ABF’s transformation over the past five years and shapes the expanded experience lined up for this December. Under this concept, five countries will compete for the coveted ABF Trophy, five fashion brands will take the runway at the 2025 ABF Fashion Show and Cultural Night, and five musical performers from the ABF Music Rising Star competition will headline the main stage.

For the first time, the festival will run for five consecutive days, from 10 to 14 December, offering patrons an enhanced celebration that blends basketball, fashion, music, youth culture and entertainment.

Tomorrow’s launch will reveal the full festival lineup and direction for the anniversary edition. Fans will also get an immediate taste of the ABF’s energy, as a 3x3 basketball tournament follows the ceremony. Five teams will compete for a GH¢2,000 cash prize along with assorted items from sponsors. The organisers note that the post-launch competition is meant to showcase the ABF’s basketball roots and build anticipation for next month’s main event.

Over the past five years, the Africa Basketball Festival has grown into a prominent December attraction, merging sport and entertainment while drawing fans and creators from across the continent and beyond. The fifth-anniversary edition is expected to highlight the festival’s evolution and set the stage for an even more ambitious future.

The 2025 Africa Basketball Festival is sponsored by Glico General Insurance, GTS Drilling, Indomie Noodles, GTV Sports Plus, Points Africa, Warrior King Watches, Lamborghini Energy Drink, The Luckiest, Minimie Atsomo, Lush Hair, Verna Water, the Ghana Basketball Association, Nkonkonsa.com, Awuah Sports and the Ghana Tourism Authority. The event is organised by RITE Sports Services and hosted by the University of Ghana Sports and Wellness Directorate.
