Former GAFA boss denies interference charge

A former president of the Ghana Amputee Football Association (GAFA), Francis Adjetey Sowah, has debunked rumours that he is still interfering in the activities of the Association barely a year after leaving office.

Sowah described those claims as false and said he resigned willingly on the Match 21 last year to concentrate on his work as the president of amputee football in Africa and was not forced out of office.

“My position as African President of Amputee Football is much for me to handle rather than engaging in other issues of little concern,” he stated.

He explained that the main functions of the Ghana Paralympic Committee (GPC) was to coordinate and create an enabling environment for disable sportsmen in the country to legitimately participate in International Paralympic Committee (IPC) approved programmes and competitions but not to appoint executives for the various disciplines.

He asserted that he founded disabled sports in the country two decades ago.

“In any case I’m the founder of disabled sports since 1994, and we met to make proposals and not appointments,” he added.

Mr Sowah, who doubles as the vice president of GPC, acknowledged the fact that there could be instances where he would express his opinion on matters concerning disabled sportsmen since he is also a disable person.

However, those views can be accepted and implemented or can be discarded since it was not compulsory for anybody to accept his views.
