The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially appointed Stephen Frimpong Manso as the Head Coach of the Black Starlets, Ghana’s Male National Under-17 football team.
Coach Manso, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in coaching and player development, takes the reins with high expectations. His resume includes stints with notable clubs such as Stade d’Abidjan, Asante Kotoko, Karela United, B.A. United, Kessben FC (now Medeama SC), and Nkoranza Warriors. He is currently serving as the Head Coach of Premier League side Bibiani Gold Stars.
Known for his ability to identify and nurture young talent, Coach Manso previously managed the Black Starlets from 2009 to 2010, after an earlier role as Assistant Coach. He also served as Assistant Coach of Ghana's U-23 team, the Black Meteors, between 2006 and 2008.
A stalwart during his playing days, Frimpong Manso represented Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, from 1986 to 1995. He also enjoyed a successful club career with Kumasi Asante Kotoko, where he played for eight years before transferring to Al Shabab in Kuwait. As a defender, he was renowned for his reliability and leadership on the field.
With a CAF Licence A Coaching certificate, Coach Manso is well-equipped to lead the Black Starlets as they prepare for a series of international assignments. His deep knowledge of the game and emphasis on youth development are expected to strengthen the team’s prospects.
The GFA has retained Coaches Nana Kweku Agyemang and Jacob Nettey as Assistant Coaches, ensuring continuity in the technical bench.
The GFA’s decision to entrust Frimpong Manso with the role signals a commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s dominance in youth football, both on the continent and globally.
Fans and stakeholders alike are optimistic that his leadership will bring the Black Starlets back to their former glory, setting a solid foundation for future national success.
