Gberbie wins Diplomatic Corps golf

Teye Lartey Gberbie last Saturday won the flagship men’s Group A category of the Dean of Diplomatic Corps invitational golf tournament held at the Celebrity Golf Club in Accra.

Returning a score of 38 points, 42-year-old Gberbie pipped Majid Joeher - who amassed 36 points, in second and Joe Ampofo who tied Joeher's score but lost out on countback.

For his outstanding display Gberbie was presented with a crystal trophy as well as a Business Class South African Airways return ticket to Johannesburg.

The one-day 18-hole stableford competition was held in honour of the Zimbabwean High Commissioner to Ghana, Mrs Pavelyn Tendai Musaka, who is also the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana.

 

Participants in the competition included the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Gerhard Brugger, as well as representatives from the American, Turkish, Namibian, South African and Zimbabwean missions in Ghana.

In the Men's  Group B, Oluwale Akinode bagged 38 points to place first while Albert Botwe beat Dan Aryee to second place on countback after they both finished the course with 36 points.

In the Ladies Group A category, the crystal trophy and Kenyan Airways ticket to any destination in Africa was won by Letitia Amponsah Mensah. She recorded 37 points, one more than second placed Mona Myers Lamptey and third placed Vivian Dick who trailed with 30 points.

Cathy Boateng clinched the Ladies Group B prize with 39 points finishing ahead of Mariatu Bawa (38 points) and Maureen Akuako (36 points).
