Agogo, who tragically passed away on August 22, 2019, at the age of 40 in London, had been battling the effects of a stroke for several years. His passing came just days after celebrating his 40th birthday.

Agogo's career was marked by his impressive stint as a forward, beginning with Sheffield Wednesday in the Premier League. He went on to score over 100 career goals, with his most notable spell at Bristol Rovers, where he netted 45 goals in 140 games between 2003 and 2006. He also played a key role in helping Nottingham Forest achieve promotion from League One during the 2007/2008 season, finishing as the club's top scorer.

Agogo's impact extended to the international stage, where he became a fan favorite during his time with Ghana's Black Stars. He scored 12 goals in 27 appearances for the national team, most notably during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, where his performances endeared him to millions of Ghanaians.

After suffering a stroke in December 2014, just two years after retiring from football, Agogo spent two months in the hospital and later shared his struggles with speech and confidence in a 2017 BBC Four documentary titled "Speechless." Despite his challenges, he was praised for his resilience during recovery.

The GFA's tribute underscores the lasting impact Agogo had on Ghanaian football and the fond memories he left behind. As the nation remembers him, Junior Agogo's legacy as a Black Star and a football legend remains strong.
