Southern Volta schools set for inter-school sports festival

Ten qualified schools in the southern zone of the Volta Region are bracing for this year’s annual Inter-School Sports Competition, scheduled to take place at the Anlo Senior High School (ANSECO) and the Zion College (ZICO), Anloga.

The competition, running from Friday, February 28 to March 7, will see participants competing for certificates, medals and the ultimate trophy. Participants will compete for honours in athletics, football, handball, netball, basketball and table tennis.

Now in its 61st edition, the festival has, over the years, served as a breeding ground for young talent, offering students the opportunity to showcase their abilities and progress to higher levels, including national competitions.

Some of the schools that have qualified for this year’s event include the Zion Senior High School, the Keta Senior High Technical School, the Anlo Senior High School, the Keta Business College, the Abor

Senior High School, the Volta Senior High School, the Anlo-Awoamefia Senior High School, the Tsiame Senior School and the Atiavi Senior High School.

In an interview, the Head of the Physical Education Department at Zion Senior High School, Paul Atsu Ocloo, expressed optimism about a highly competitive tournament.

He said all participating schools had been adequately prepared and were ready to deliver thrilling performances. He added that with the enthusiasm in the air, records that had stood for many years may just be on the chopping block.

“We are expecting a very competitive event because every school has prepared well.

We believe the event will live up to expectations, and some records may be broken,” stated Mr Ocloo, who also serves as the Secretary of the Southern Zone Senior High School’s Sports Association.

He disclosed that stringent security measures had been put in place to ensure the safety of students and athletes throughout the competition, warning that the security personal would act decisively  and deal with who attempts to cause trouble during the competition.
