Ghana’s envoy lauds Queens

Ghana's Ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire, Mr Frederick Daniel Laryea, has commended the Black Queens for winning the WAFU women's tournament in Abidjan and assured the team of the needed support to adequately prepare to host the African Women Cup of Nations in November.

The Queens beat the host, Cote d'Ivoire, 1-0, courtesy a second minute strike by Janet Egyir to claim the trophy of the maiden edition of the competition which is intended to help in the development of the game in the sub region.

Hosting the victorious team at his residence yesterday, Mr Laryea commended them for their gallant effort which had not only brought pride to themselves but given the entire nation a sense of honour and pride.

"What you did on the pitch in that final game was not just for you. We are all very proud of you and on behalf of the President, I wish to congratulate you for your effort. Ghana is rebranding and this success is priceless in that regard," Ambassador Laryea told the team.

Leanier Addy, the chairperson of the Black Queens management committee and leader of the delegation, expressed the team's appreciation for the warm reception the Ghana Embassy accorded them throughout their campaign at the WAFU competition.
