GOC boss urges government to invest in Technical Officials
The president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has called on the state to consider getting more International Technical Officials (ITOs) as Ghana prepares to host the African Games next year.
He blamed the inability of Ghanaian officials to travel for competitions as the cause for not making it into the ITO fold.

The GOC president explained that officials across the globe get the chance to be part of the ITOs during international championships where they get the chance to participate in workshops.
In an interview with Graphic Sports, Mr Nunoo Mensah said the situation where Ghanaian officials were not recognised at the international stage was a source of worry to the GOC and the various federations and, therefore, urged the Ministry of Youth and Sports to find a solution to it.
“We are hosting the next edition of the African Games and it provides us with the opportunity to ensure our officials get into the ITOs.
“This is very important to us as a sporting nation because we need these officials to be part of the officiating at international competitions,” he said.
“To achieve this, the Ministry of Youth and Sports must get more officials to attend international competitions so they can take part in workshops to be recognised as part of the ITOs,” he explained.
Accra is preparing to host the rest of Africa in the continent’s biggest multi-sport competition in August next year and Team Ghana is looking to improve on its performance in the previous edition held in Rabat, Morocco, in 2019.
Ghana placed 15th on the medal table in the last edition, but with the games taking place on home soil, the country seeks to finish at least fifth.
